this week’s topic challenge is a more political and fragile topic. should one of the players use the wrong word, it could mean a huge argument could arise. a touchy topic could cause the group to divide itself, but at the same time can yield a reward to a lucky contestant.

"This topic is double-sided to allow for more significant posts. Political Correctness. Also available at your disposal are Affirmative Action and Reparations for the descendants of slaves." – cybermolehost

"I have never subscribed to political correctness. It's just one more example of what is wrong with our society. I believe in calling a spade a spade. Larry is a black man. I am a white man. That doesn't mean we can't be friends and it doesn't mean I can't refer to him as black. There are certain words that are negative but making a distinction between African-American, Native-American, German-American, Asian-American, Gay-American, Blind-American, etc.is just ridiculous." –dave

"I was at a convention recently, and heard a man speak... I can't recall his name, Marshall something... but he was black... and he *hates* the way things like political correctness have become so prominent in the nation. In fact, he won't complete his census because he says his ethnicity isn't on there. His ethnicity? American. And I think that hits the nail on the head 110%. I'm an American. Dave's an American. Larry's an American. Putting everyone into 712 different groups because of age, sex, ethnic background, sexual preference, favorite food, whatever... that promotes division... and that's what has been wrong with our country for a loooooong time." -john

"The women's libbers, feminazis started this whole mess back in the 70's with all that crap about gender neutral job descriptions. What a f**king mess that turned out to be. Instead of garbageman, you are the garbage person, then you become a sanitation engineer. Please??!! And what about the First Lady? Shouldnt that be the First person? And ladies, I'm sorry but God is not a woman. Never has been and never will be. Sorry. The worst purveyors of PCness now are the ACLU. Talk about outliving their usefullness." –dave

"I remember, as a child, hearing my dad talk about GM's hiring process. They had to hire X% of this color and X% of that color, and I didn't understand why. I thought it was stupid then and I think it's stupid now. I believe it should be Earned, not Given. They have to take tests in order to be hired - I believe the top X amount of tests should be hired. Give them a fake name, have them take the tests, then grade them. If they're hiring the top 100 test scores and the best 100 scores are white men - then so be it. They deserve to be hired. If the top 100 test scores are all women or all Indian or all Chinese - then so be it. They EARNED that. -annette

"I feel that for the most part affirmative action is outdated. In certain circumstances it may still serve it's purpose, but it's already accomplished what it was set out to mostly. It has also created a type of reverse discrimination. Rewarding less qualified people hardly makes sense. Plus, it seems kind of demeaning to the group that the action is aimed towards. It sends the message that they can only succeed if given lower goals." -jason

"And now to the delicate issue of reparations for descendants of slaves. No, absolutely not, a thousand times no on paying them for past injustices. I feel the same way about Jewish people being payed for the suffering of their descendants at the hands of the Nazis, Indians being given all the special rights they are given, etc. Hell, why shouldnt I be able to go to England and demand reparation for the treatment my ancestors received at the hands of the British during the Revolutionary War. Because it didnt affect me. It happened 300 years ago!! Yes, those peoples were treated horribly but what good is it going to accomplish to give them money? And who is going to pay? Why should I as a business owner, be penalized because my great, great, great, great, great grandfather used slave labor in his mill? Is that fair? No. Is what happened 100's of years ago fair? No, but there is nothing to do about it now. Let it go and get on with your lives. White Americans shit on everybody back in the day. I mean Christ, show me one conquering nation in the history of the world that kicked the crap out of another nation and then turned around and said, ‘Oh we sure are sorry, here take all the minerals in the ground, the fish in the ocean, the animals in the forest and while we're at it, how about you set up some gambling institutions that are illegal for the rest of us but you go ahead because we kicked the crap out of you 150 years ago. here take some tax free booze and cigarettes while you're at it because God knows, the Native Americans don't have enough of a problem with booze.’" –dave
