challenge group 2: larry, stephanie
"Gina has left the room and may not participate in the challenge longer. Here is your next puzzle: Dodgy Dale, our local Do-It-Yourself expert, is renovating the local hospital. His task is to number each of the rooms in the hospital with plastic numbers. However, in his box, he has plastic numeral 0s to 8s but he hasn't a single numeral 9. How many 9s must Dale buy in order to number all 999 rooms? –cybermolehost
"300. Since Stephanie won't be back until tomorrow, I nominate her to leave the challenge and I'll finish it alone." –larry
"correct. luckily, larry, your group has correctly solved two puzzles. you are the last one standing in your group in the "dwindling puzzles I hope you are ready for the last puzzle..." –cybermolehost
"congratulations larry. you have proved your worth and you must fight this last battle alone. here is your puzzle. During the lunch hour at school, a group of five boys from Miss Jones home room visited a nearby convenience store. one of the five boys took a candy bar without paying for it. When the boys were questioned by the school principal, they made the following statements in respective order: 1. Rex: "Neither Earl nor I did it." 2. Jack: "It was Rex or Abe." 3. Abe: "Both Rex and Jack are lying." 4. Dan: "Abe's statement is not true; one of them is lying and the other is speaking the truth." 5. Earl: "What Dan said is wrong." When Miss Jones was consulted, she said, "Three of these boys are always truthful, but everything that two of them say will be a lie." Assuming that Miss Jones is correct, can you determine who took the candy bar?" –cybermolehost
"I think that Abe was the boy that took the Candy Bar." –larry
"correct, Abe is the boy that stole the candy bar. But remember that unless Daniel completes his task, no money will be won this week." –cybermolehost
