“Topic this episode : Chinese / US relations in alignment with the recent mid-air collision between two aircraft.” –cybermolehost
“Being that I don't know all that much about this I can't really say that I agree or disagree. I know that I feel that a simple apology was no big deal if it meant that those men and women would be returned home safely. For the first and possibly the last time I agree with good ole George W. I'm glad that he did what was needed to ensure the safe return of our citizens.” -larry
“It sounds like all things considered, it worked out fairly well other than the Chinese pilot dying. I am not sure why we are still flying these type of spy missions over other countries. I might be off base here but I think it might be time for the US to quit trying to be the world's police. We spend too much money and lose too many lives concerning ourselves with what is going on in other countries. The human rights violations in China might be repulsive to us, but it IS their country. What right do we have to try to force them to live the way we think they should live?” –dave
“Yeah, like Dave, I don't really follow current events stuff all that much, so this one may be difficult for me to get three posts out of... not that it matters anyway. The one thing about this that has gotten my attention is the whole apology issue. I'm not completely sure of all the details surrounding the incident, but I do know that at least one Chinese individual died as a result of the crash.” -john
“Hmmm, I really am out of touch with the world lately, will have to correct that. I remember reading about the old west when the railroads were being built and how there was a lot of Chinese labor used. Maybe they still hold a grudge about that. Or maybe it is the was they are portrayed in shows like Kung Fu. I mean, come on, David Carradine as a Chinaman??!! They did get Chinatown with Jack Nicholson and that was a pretty good movie from what I remember. Anyway, this isn't really on topic but I wanted to do the three posts so let me say something about the apology. I think it would have been the decent thing to do considering somebody DID die. Regardless of what caused it, we should have said we were sorry and made amends to the pilots family. OH hey, did anybody see that part where they said the Chinese pilot was trying to give our pilots his e-mail address? I don't know what he was doing for sure but he had his hands off the controls. I don't think I would let go of the controls of a fighter that was flying at hundreds of miles an hour, do you?” –dave
“Well, one thing's for sure... our relations with China have stunk for a long time, and this is doing very little to help that. I'm not aware of all the specifics of past conflicts, but I know enough to know that the US and China aren't the best of friends.” -john
