interview with dave
1: How does it feel being executed? Are you sad that you were executed? Did you feel that you might have made it to the end of the contest? Were you surprised that you were executed?
It sucks! How the hell do you think it feels? :-) Kidding. Actually it really made me mad because I ignored my own "Spidey sense" The last two days it was tingling and telling me something wasn't right but I ignored it. Yeah, it is kinda sad because this was a great game and the first one I have been in where the results were all based on what I did. I really thought I had a decent shot at making it to the end. If I could have gotten thru this week, things would have become much clearer. I guess I was kinda surprised at being executed. I think I had gotten complacent with my answers because of others dropping out. Actually the funny thing was when I went back to the board to check the results and couldn't get back in, I tried like three times before going, "Oh crap, I guess I have been executed." :-) So yes, I was surprised and dissapointed.

2: Who do you think the cybermole is, now that you've been executed?
I am thinking that John is the Cybermole. Larry had some strong indicators the last couple of days and Jason looks the part but I think that it is John. The thing is, I must have missed some strong clues because it could very well be Annette.
  | |
3: Do you feel that anyone had lied to you so that they can win the game or because they wanted to betray you?
I don't think anyone really lied to me but if I am right in my assumption that John is the Cybermole, then he definitely played me. Approaching me on the first day or two about being in an alliance and sharing information and all that. I started out slow with him, trying to be cagy and determine his true motives but he was pretty straight and it wasn't until the last day that he said something that made me think he was the Cybermole. By then it was too late. So, no, he didn't lie to me or go out of his way to betray me. He just did a psych job on me. Same goes for the others. Annette or Larry didn't do anything obvious and I had very little contact with Jason.
  | |
4: Did you like the format of the game and the challenges? Were any of the challenges too difficult or unfair?
I thought the game was very well laid out and showed a lot of behind the scenes preparation. Especially if this is the first time you guys have done this [Note: it was], you did an excellent job. I was constantly impressed by the way you had things set up and amatuer hack-proofed. The challenges were more than fair. I wish I had taken the lead more in a couple of them. The rescue and the maze challenges come to mind. I would like to have done more in those.
  | |
5: Who were your favorite people from the project? And why do you think that they are your favorites? Who do you think you'll keep in touch with after the game ends?
I would have to say John was probably my favorite even if he does turn out to be the Cybermole. He was closer to my age and seemed to share at least a little of the same sense of humor. Annette was great fun to be with and I liked her a lot but she was a wrestling fan, so that took points away :-) I liked Gina but didn't have the chance to get to know her very well. Mostly because she was so tiny and cute. Hey, had to get in one more daily Dave perversion thought right? The rest were all good people, they just seemed to drop out suddenly. I was most impressed with the maturity level of the people in the game. A couple of times, I made some pretty inflammatory comments that could have sparked some really negative reactions and they were all cool about it. It was nice to be in a game where you can exchange different ideas with respect for each others viewpoints.
  | |
6: Were there any moments when you felt that you couldn't trust anyone and when did that happen?
I developed a bad feeling about Daniel almost from the start. Something he said set me off. I don't remember exactly what but I never feel comfortable with him after that. Larry threw me a curve in our last challenge but that might have been because he was a little slow getting to where I was. Probably the incident that stands out the most was when John indicated that he knew an answer of Larry's when he hadn't been in that particular challenge with him. That was when I started to believe I was being manipulated but as I said earlier, it was right before the X-quiz and I was too lazy or to complacent to make the necessary changes to my thought process.
  | |
7: Is there anything you would have done differently in the game
Oh god, tons of things. I would have laid back a little more on the chat boards, taken a more active role in the challenges, and done more switchbacks and crossovers. I think I should have reached out to certain players for input earlier than I did. Tried to exchange information with them and gotten a better feeling on the Cybermole that way. I should have kept a little mystery around me and not have trusted anyone.
  | |
8: Did the experience change yourself as a person and if so, how?
Well not really as a person in real life, but in my online persona, I learned a lot. I learned I am not as sharp as I thought I was and it is much harder to read people when you can't see their eyes or hear their voices.
  | |
9: If you were asked to be the cybermole, would you have done it and how would you have done things differently?
My initial thought on this was no, I wouldnt want to be the Cybermole but now that I have time to think about it, yes I would have loved to have done that. Matching wits with the others would have been fun and being able to talk with the producers more about certain things would have made me feel more like an insider so that would have been fun. I would probably have befriended a couple of people at first and put forth real effort in the challenges but tried to come of as a little dumb, and used that as my excuse when I blew a challenge. I would have made sure I was with different groups of people as much as possible so as not to be suspected by any one person. I would have dropped some disinformation hints pointed toward others as the Cybermole.
  | |
10: Do you think that you had a advantage/disadvantage by not being in an alliance?
I thought I was at an advantage by being allied with John but that actually didn't help too much. It was definitely a disadvantage not being able to bounce ideas off of a couple of people. But you always have to be careful how much information you share because the person you are allied with could be the Cybermole. Even if they weren't they could use the information against you. Tough call but obviously I did it wrong. :-)
  | |
11: What was your strategy for playing the game?
Actually, the only strategy I had was to be as active as I could and try to get into challenges and discussions with as many different people as I could to get a feel for them. I was naive in thinking that my natural intelligence would get me thru this. I should have developed a battle plan from day one and made contact with one or two key people and milked that as long as I could. I put all my eggs in one basket (john) and it cost me.
  | |
12: How do you feel about your fellow contestants and how would you describe him/her?:
| |
  | |
13: Who do you think will win the contest?
I think that John will win or if John is the Cybermole, then Gina will win.
  | |
14: Did you ever try to act like the cybermole to fool the others? Do you suspect anyone of trying to act like the cybermole?
Occasionally, I did things a little less efficiently than I would normally do them in order to make people wonder. I didn't do anything real flagrant, just messed up a little on the challenges and maybe dropped a word or two to make people wonder. I was just planting little seeds of doubt and that is why I am so frustrated to be gone. I was going to really watch those seeds grow over the next couple of episodes.
  | |
15: What was your favorite part of the game?
I think the challenges were the best part. It was all good but I liked the Rescue idea and the maze challenge. THis last one we did with the Execs was good too. The individual chat boards was a good idea as well. Always felt like a spy when I would exchange messages with someone. I like the way you guys kept us in the dark and made it as much like the real game as possible. My biggest regret is that I am not their for the Man behind the mask challenge. dont know what it is, but it sounded like it would be fun. [Note: that was the "to tell the truth" challenge that he participated in]
  | |
16: If you were given the opportunity to play the cybermole again, would you do it?
Absolutely!! This was a great game and I hope to have the chance again. I learned a lot and would love to have the chance to match wits with players, and producers, and the audience, and the whole thing. The best online gaming experience I have had so far. Damn, I want back in. I can do better!! Give me another shot at it!!! Good luck to all and I look forward to viewing the game and seeing how this turns out.
